The donations in this group are from the family and friends of Louis "Lou" Del Re, Emily Robinson, and our families in support of Lou's fight against ALS - diagnosed June 2023 at 30 years old.

Lou's Story

My name is Louis Del Re, I am 32 years old. I live with my wife Emily and dog Auston in Stouffville Ontario. I have two younger brother's Marcus (29) and Curtis (23). I was a paramedic, I love sports (especially hockey and golf), all outdoor activities and live music. In June of 2023, I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. My symptoms began subtly with my voice in December of 2022. Followed by some difficulty swallowing liquids. In March I noticed a decrease in strength while working out and playing hockey. In April I began having muscle fasciculations and obvious weakness in my hands. I saw my family doctor in early May and was diagnosed at Sunnybrook ALS clinic on June 30th.

Coping with ALS

Two things really help me cope with this illness:

1. Rediscovering my purpose—advocating and raising awareness, by sharing my story and working with ALS Action Canada and the ALS Super Fund

2. Living by my mantra: “Keep on Buzzin.” It means living with motivation, love, and gratitude—even in the hardest times. It means never giving up, and doing my best to live with ALS, not die from it.

Keep on Buzzin

"BUZZIN" IS A TERM OFTEN USED IN HOCKEY SLANG. IT DESCRIBES A TEAM PLAYING WITH ENERGY, PACE, INTENSITY, AND UNITY—FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS. THE PHRASE "KEEP ON BUZZIN" HAS EVOLVED INTO A POWERFUL MANTRA FOR THOSE FACING TOUGH LIFE CHALLENGES. IT’S A CALL TO STAY ENERGIZED AND MOTIVATED, TO MAINTAIN A POSITIVE MINDSET, AND TO KEEP EMBRACING LIFE WITH JOY, LOVE, AND GRATITUDE—EVEN IN THE DARKEST OF TIMES. FIGURATIVELY, IT’S A REMINDER TO KEEP PUSHING FORWARD, TO KEEP FIGHTING, AND TO NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT.
