Dedicated Nanaimo runner Mark Blackell will participate in the 119th Boston Marathon on April 20th, 2015. And he's reaching out to raise funds for mental health programs in Nanaimo.

MARK RUNS WITH THE BASTION RUNNING CLUB IN NANAIMO

Mark Blackell runs with the Bastion Running Club in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island. The club supports a social atmosphere while providing both competitive and recreational running opportunities within the community.

He started running a few years ago for health reasons, after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and "got hooked."

HE'S GOING TO BOSTON FOR THE APRIL 20, 2015 BOSTON MARATHON

Mark ran his first marathon, in Vancouver, last year. He's now qualified for the world-famous Boston Marathon, on April 20, 2015. And he's very excited about it!

The Boston Marathon is the world’s oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world’s most prestigious road racing events. The 119th Boston Marathon will be held this year.

MARK WILL RAISE FUNDS FOR MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS

Mark is on the board of directors for Vancouver Island Mental Health Society (the new name for Columbian Centre Society) in Nanaimo.

The group provides housing and rehabilitation for folks with a mental illness so that they can live independent, constructive lives in their communities.

A dedicated staff of psychiatric nurses and rehabilitation care workers provide a range of services to help people overcome mental health challenges and address addictions.

YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE DIRECTLY TO MARK'S CAMPAIGN

Please consider sponsoring me in my running of the Boston Marathon, where approximately one million spectators line the 42.2 km course.

I am paying my own way to Boston and 100% of your donation will go to Vancouver Island Mental Health Society (Columbian Centre) programs benefiting people recovering from mental illness.

Please help me to help others -- and cheer me on when I run in Boston!
