Unfortunately, Downhill Skateboarding and Street Luge Athletes in Canada receive no formal funding, and a journey to the World Championships is a cost not all of the athletes on our team can afford. We ask for charitable donations to help subsidize the cost of our safety equipment, travel expenses, and accommodation.
We understand that you have several choices when considering different marketing and community outreach opportunities. By assisting our athletic pursuits, the Canadian Downhill Team will have the opportunity to defend our title, as we compete against the Worlds fastest and finest Downhill Skateboarders.
Downhill skateboarding is an exhilarating and high-speed sport where riders navigate steep hills or mountains on specialized skateboards that are designed for stability and control at high speeds. It involves descending at rapid speeds while maintaining control and maneuvering through challenging terrain. Protective gear such as full-face helmets, leather suits, and sliding gloves are essential for safety during high-speed descents. Downhill skateboarding requires exceptional skill, balance, and mental focus. Riders must be able to navigate tight corners, hairpin turns, and unpredictable road conditions while maintaining their speed and stability.
The sport combines elements of speed, strategy, and technical ability, making it an exhilarating and competitive discipline within the skateboarding community.
Street luge is an extreme gravity-powered sport where participants ride a specialized wheeled sled or luge board down a paved road or track. Similar to traditional luge in the Winter Olympics, the rider lies on their back with their feet pointed forward and uses their body weight to steer and control the sled. Street luge can reach incredible speeds, often exceeding 160 km/h, making it one of the fastest gravity-powered sports.
Street luge boards are typically longer and lower to the ground than skateboards, with small wheels and trucks designed for stability at high speeds. Riders wear full protective gear, including helmets, leather suits, gloves, and knee pads, to ensure safety during fast descents.
Street luge provides an adrenaline-fueled experience for thrill-seekers who enjoy the sensation of speed and the challenge of navigating tight corners and curves. It is a thrilling and competitive sport within the extreme sports community.
