The founders of Team Canada Scholarship are passionate about building a racing ladder in Canada to IndyCar and other professional motorsports. Celebrating our 11th year, TCS will again send 2 drivers to the UK to race in the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy races!

OUR VISION

Our vision is to help guide Canadian open wheel drivers to assist them in reaching their dreams in motorsports. This is one step in building this racing ladder for Canadian drivers, but it gives them their first taste of international competition, in a car with different tires, chassis, and engines, from what they are used to here in Canada. It forces drivers to quickly adapt, learn and embrace new challenges. Team Canada Scholarship has been made possible through the hard work of Brian Graham and Kelly Neilson, and now with the assistance of other like-minded motorsports enthusiasts, we have expanded the vision of what is possible. These include:
-We have created a structured stand-alone non-profit organization
-Created a selection committee of prominent motorsports individuals to evaluate and choose Team Canada participants
-Created a “Shootout” event for the purpose of evaluating Canadian talent
-Annually send two drivers to participate in Formula Ford Festival and the Walter Hayes Trophy Race. By giving an opportunity to race on consecutive weekends, our drivers will have acclimatized to the cars, their team, and new tires and compete for a podium.
-Expand fundraising activities and corporate participation.

Through a new partnership with Road To Racing Canada, a motorsports amateur athletics association we are able to fund our activities through charitable donations!

HOW TEAM CANADA SCHOLARSHIP GOT STARTED

After following the Formula Ford Festival and learning about the history of the greatest FF race on earth, held annually at Brands Hatch racetrack in the UK, Brian Graham (Founder of BGR Racing) wondered how he could become involved and support the young and rising drives in Canada.
His friend Jeremy Shaw had been running a scholarship program in the USA very successfully as – Team USA Scholarship and Brian reached out to Jeremy for a chat. After watching a few of the BGR alumni head to the Festival as Team USA drivers, it was clear that something had to happen to allow Canada to get involved.
A few years later the Team Canada Scholarship program was born. It was really a terrific debut, with a young French Canadian driver Xavier Coupal being selected to represent Team Canada.
The trip came close to being a fairy tale come true when Coupal won his semi-final and lined up on pole for the final. He led the opening 11 laps only to lose the lead to the eventual winner Irishman Ivor McCullough. Shortly after that, he was bumped off the circuit by another competitor and ended his day in the gravel.
But the fire had been lit! As the years progressed, so have the number of drivers who have made the journey each year to the Festival.

NOTE TO DONORS

We can accept charitable donations from corporate donors. However if you wish to use for marketing or advertising, or want your logo on the car you need to be a corporate sponsor with Team Canada Scholarship directly.

Road to Racing is a Canadian registered Amateur Athletics Association and is permitted by CRA to issue tax receipts for donations. We are dedicated to advancing motorsports on a nationwide basis, and supporting amateur athletes in achieving their dreams.

As per CRA requirements, Donors can indicate their program preference for how a charity will apply their donation (in this case to Team Canada Scholarship ), but ultimate authority on the use of the resources must rest with the charity.
If the charity does not use the donation in the way the donors prefer, the charity will not return the donation to the donors. For example if Team Canada Scholarship ceases to exist, the remaining funds would remain with R2R for other scholarships.
