The Group's Purpose
JANUARY 2025 UPDATE:The Vancouver School Board commits to a historical $250,000 investment to implement AEDs across all schools by Sept. 2025. We are now raising funds to support the Vancouver School Board in the purchase of AEDs such that funds are not taken from other pressing student needs.
Hi, we are Students for AEDs and we are fundraising for the purchase and installation of AEDs in every high school in Vancouver.
Students for AEDs is a student-led non-profit founded after the untimely and preventable death of a Gr. 9 student at Point Grey Secondary in 2023. Due to the continued refusal by the Vancouver School Board (VSB) to fund or allow the installation of self-funded AEDs, Students for AEDs is reaching out to the community for support in preventing further deaths of children.
Vancouver is one of the only school districts in B.C. without AEDs in high schools. Year after year, the VSB has denied the need or resourcefulness of AEDs in high schools, but we firmly believe that the benefits of having AEDs outweigh the costs.
AEDs are simple machines designed for anyone to use, with statistical data showing the increases in survival rates for those suffering sudden cardiac arrests. Even in instances where an AED can not be applied, the AED provides clear CPR instructions that could guide inexperienced individuals to save a life.
We wish to prevent such situations from happening again in the future.
