Within 36 hours, on September 2nd and 3rd, local professionals from Innovative Fitness will embark on a 500km bike ride to raise awareness about physical inactivity. Funds will support Physical Literacy for Life, a national organization that is aimed at improving the health/lives of all Canadians.

The Group's Purpose

Our vision is to continue the legacy of the Ride for the Future annual event that raises awareness and empowers local communities to address the issue of physical inactivity.

According to Stats Canada, over 13.5 million people report themselves as being inactive during their leisure time. Compared to just under 16 million that report the opposite. In 2014 there were over 14 million self-reported overweight/obese adults (18+). There was almost 470,700 self-reported youth (12-17) who were overweight/obese. It is important to confront physical inactivity at a young age and establish healthy life-long habits.

This event sees a team from Innovative Fitness embark on this gruelling ride to raise awareness about childhood obesity and support the 60 Minute Kids’ Club - a Canadian charity that works with schools and communities to get kids excited about making healthy choices and build healthy habits to last a life time.

Ride for the Future will kick off in Port Hardy on September 2nd at 8 a.m. and aim to arrive in Victoria 36 hours later on September 3rd, supported by a crew of volunteers. While riding through many Vancouver Island communities, their goal is to empower each community they ride through to find ways to combat childhood obesity and inspire communities to live a healthier lifestyle.

The money raised by the riders will go directly to the 60 Minutes Kids’ Club, which offers FREE resources and programs to children across B.C. and all throughout Canada. For every $2 they raise, the charity can deliver their programs for 1 more child, for the entire year! This year, Innovative Fitness has set a goal of raising $20k before September 2nd!

About the Organizers

The original Ride for the Future was initiated by Victoria, BC local, Ryley Carter. Ryley wanted to DO SOMETHING to support the health of our youngest generation. No more talking. Ryley chose to organize this event, raise funds, mobilize the community, and take on this monumental challenge. Following the success from his first year, the second year was even more successful. Ryley had the vision, took action, and made it happen in 2016 and raised close to $20,000 in the two years he has completed this event! This year Noah Topp and Tyler Kraft will be taking on this amazing legacy with the support from Ryley, Innovative Fitness, 60 Minute Kids Club, Physical Literacy for Life, and many other local sponsors and community members.
