The Group's Purpose
Friends and Supporters of PSSI:
The Parker Street Sponsorship Initiative was formed in 2015 to respond the international refugee crisis, at a community level, by sponsoring and supporting a Syrian family in their resettlement in East Vancouver.
We are very pleased to report that our first sponsorship initiative has been a huge success! Our family arrived in September 2016, and have settled very well in the Grandview Woodland community. The adult daughter has finished her English classes and is now working, and her mother is continuing with her English classes.
Our PSSI organizing group facilitated the first year settlement, which was made possible because of all the donations made by our generous community. Thank you for your part in helping this wonderful family build a new life in Vancouver.

We are no longer soliciting donations for this family.
However, we are working with another neighbourhood group to take on a second sponsorship (the sister and family of our PSSI sponsored family). We are very excited to see efforts toward family reunification!
The new sponsorship group is the Grandview-Woodland Refugee Initiative (GWRI), and needs to raise another $30,000.

About the Organizers
The PSSI is a group of Parker St. neighbours (and friends of neighbours) that gathered together to address the international refugee crisis by sponsoring and supporting a family through the process of resettling in Vancouver. Fortunately, our group is one with many motivated individuals with diverse experience and expertise including: accountant, lawyer and paralegal, project managers, emergency planners, urban planner, and many others, all of whom contributed incredible strengths to the group that ensured this initiative was a success.
PSSI was also supported the amazing MOSAIC BC, a multilingual non-profit organization dedicated to addressing issues affecting immigrants and refugees in the course of their settlement and integration into Canadian society. MOSAIC was incredibly helpful to PSSI over the past year, helping us access the many other resources available to assist with refugee sponsorship, and providing us with advice and support whenever we asked. Thank you MOSAIC!
