Your donation to Nelson Friends of Afghan Refugees (NFAR)will help sponsor an Afghan family-Javed, his wife, two adults daughters and Javed"s younger brother-to come to Nelson, BC,as refugees. Javed was caught in the crisis in Afghanistan in 2021.
More about the family's situation
Javed's work for a US NGO building playgrounds in Afghanistan made him a target for the Taliban. Nelson resident, Bill Lynch and his daughters helped Javed and family escape to Pakistan - but it was harrowing. The family’s current situation is precarious; it is not a long-term solution.
Our group has been approved by the Anglican Church Diocese of Kootenay to sponsor Javed’s family to come to Canada. As part of the government’s requirements, we need to raise $60,000 to cover the first year of expenses when the family resettles here. Your donation contributes to this fund and also helps build a community of caring people that will be so important to Javed and family once they arrive here.
