Group Admins

We are raising funds to sponsor my sister and her family who are now refugees after escaping the war in Yemen. We need to raise $40,000 ($16K to go!) - this is a requirement of the Canadian Government (all money goes directly to the family).

The Group's Purpose

*update: in March 2020 we received some bittersweet news, Amal and family were granted Canadian permanent residency status but due to COVID their entry has been postponed indefinitely and unfortunately we are unable to get any more guidance or information due to limited government resources. We will update this page as their story evolves.

ABOUT THE FAMILY:

When the civil war broke out in 2014, Amal, who was 30 years old and 8 months pregnant at the time, her 3-year-old son Khaled, and Amal’s mother Hana, fled to Jordan. They narrowly escaped the airport closures the following day and have been living as refugees ever since. For these two single women with limited resources and no family or friends, life has been hard. “When we were accepted to come to Canada it was a dream come true” says Amal.

The name Amal means ‘hope’ in Arabic – couldn’t be more fitting! She is a beautiful soul with a spunky personality. We can’t wait for you to meet her and the family! Please help us to make this hope a reality. Truly every sized contribution helps.

ABOUT YEMEN:

The war in Yemen is called the 'Forgotten War'. According to UNHCR it is the "world’s worst humanitarian crisis" but sadly much of the world has ignored the conflict and heard little about the devastating impact. Read more:
