The ‘the Dude’ of Guelph Park is a legacy of the 1991 Brewery Creek Art Exposition. This wooden cedar sculpture carved by BC artist Michael Dennis inspired a ‘guerilla art’ secondary “Dude Chilling Park‘ sign in 2012.
Responding to the deterioration of the sculpture, the Vancouver Park Board has worked with the artist to remove it and prepare it for casting in permanent bronze.
The Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association (MPCCA), a registered charity and supported the placement of the original sculpture and has agreed to handle the necessary fundraising campaign to #SavetheDude.
So let’s #SavetheDude.
All donations will help #SavetheDude and return 'Dude Chilling' to Guelph Park.
Fortunately, your $ donation will be matched! The Christopher Foundation has agreed to match donations equally $ 1 for $ 1 (to a maximum of $ 30,000 ) upon the successful completion of the necessary funds.
As some donations will be made directly to the Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association -- a combined #SavetheDude 'Dude Chilling' Campaign progress thermometer will be updated weekly at www.mountpleasantcc.ca which will include the notional matched funds from the Christopher Foundation.
The Mount Pleasant Community Centre Association (MPCCA) is the joint operator along with the Vancouver Park Board of the Mount Pleasant Community Centre located at #1 Kingsway. The MPCCA assisted with the original sculpture in 1991 and was delighted to take on the responsibility of the #SavetheDude campaign.
The MPCCA was established in 1964 and is governed by a Board of individuals interested in serving the residents of Mount Pleasant and beyond. The MPCCA became a registered charity with the Canada Revenue Agency, Charities Directorate in 1989 (Registration Number 10772 7380 RR0001).
