The Group's Purpose
Music is one of the most basic human means of expression and communication. So it should be no surprise that music can be used as or in therapy to help people physically, cognitively, spiritually, and emotionally.
Music therapy draws upon the power of making and responding to music and is delivered by accredited music therapists. Treatment is unique for each individual or group and music therapy is often used alongside other therapies.
The Music Therapy Ride raises funds to create new music therapy programs, expand and bring well deserved attention to existing programs, and provision the Bandwagons - mobile recording studios designed specifically for music therapists. These mobile studios contain recording software, sound processing equipment and a variety of musical instruments.
Bandwagons enables music therapists to travel throughout the Lower Mainland and visit clients in community hospitals, complex care residential homes, hospices, mental health and addiction treatment centres. Music therapy benefits all ages groups challenged by mental health issues: children, youth, adults and older adults.
This ride brings together prominent members of Vancouver’s business community, music industry, music therapists and motorcycle enthusiasts to provide music therapy to those most in need.
