Vancouver Adaptive Snow Sports ("VASS") provides ski and snowboard programs for disabled students of all ages at the Vancouver based ski mountains. Programs include: a variety of Learn-to-Ski programs for all skill levels, Learn-to-Snowboard programs for all skill levels, Drop-In ski and snowboard programs, Adaptive Race programs and Sit-Ski programs. The fiscal 2023 year saw a return to fully unrestricted programming operations for VASS for the first time since 2020. In 2022 we ran at 50% of our typical capacity and unfortunately had to cancel the 2021 snow sports program due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The financial impact of a return to full programming was an increase in both revenue and expenses compared to the previous year. We have continued to grow, reaching a new high of 554 volunteer instructors and delivering over 1,700 lessons to 320 students.

New programs introduced last season included Family and Peer to Peer across all programs, anytime Tetraski, Race snowboard program and BC Deaf Sports after school program. The Family and Peer to Peer programs were especially popular and will be continued. This year we worked with the snowshoe program at Grouse Mountain and trained six of their guides to safely secure people into a sit ski and then walk behind the sit skis to make the trails accessible to all. It was a huge success and will be repeated.
