Titled: The Roots Project, it was designed to give voice to Somali and Tamil Canadians by bringing together youth and elders for a series of intergenerational and intercultural workshops. These workshops centered on the following key systemic issues: identity, criminal justice, health, education and community engagement. Throughout 2017 the workshops were completed as the Tamil and Somali community came together to enhance cross-cultural solidarity. Among the most interesting aspects of the workshops were respondents indicating that in many ways this was the first time they had a conversation regarding educational outcomes for youth, mental wellbeing and racism with a member of either community. There partnerships were vital to managing sensitive themes and topics that arose during the 2-year long workshops particular
