What we do
The Society produces the BC and Yukon Book Prizes which annually presents awards in eight categories including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children's literature, children's illustrated literature books, books about BC, provocative literature, and the BC Bookseller's Choice award. There are juries for each award and 5 finalists are selected for each. The winners are announced at the BC and Yukon Book Prizes Gala in September of each year. The Lieutenant Governor's Award for Literary Excellence is presented at the Gala as is the Borealis Prize: Commissioner of Yukon Award for Literary Contribution. The BC and Yukon Book Prizes on Tour takes finalist authors on tour to schools and libraries all across BC and Yukon. The Society also coordinates the adopt-a-Library program. Businesses and individuals donated $500 and select a school to adopt and the school receives finalist books to the value of $500 for their school library. At least 15 schools are adopted per year.
