Mission Statement
The Lake St Louis Historical Society / Société Historique Du Lac Saint Louis is dedicated to promoting and encouraging the study of history, traditions, lifestyles, and heritage of Canada, with a special focus on Quebec. The organization achieves its mission by supporting research groups, launching historical projects, creating and maintaining museum collections, presenting exhibitions, participating in scholarly societies, and awarding study scholarships.

Geographic Focus
Based in Montreal, the Society’s work mainly centres on Quebec, though its influence extends across Canada. Some of its initiatives, like touring exhibitions and awards, reach audiences in North America and Europe. The Society maintains close ties with cultural and educational institutions in Montreal, contributing to and managing important historical collections in the city.

Program Highlights
The Society is instrumental in building and enriching collections of historical artifacts, rare books, and documents, which it has donated to notable institutions such as the Stewart Museum and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Key programs include the Stewart Program for Modern Design, which organizes and circulates modern design exhibitions internationally, and sponsorship of the Samuel de Champlain Award, presented annually in Paris to honour contributions to Franco-American cultural exchange. The Society also stages historical military reenactments, bringing to life the era of the Compagnies franches de la Marine and the 78th Fraser Highlanders, deepening public understanding of early Canadian and Quebec history.
