What We Do
At CVTRS, we know that the motion of the horses walk simulates the human walk, and that cross body stretching and activities such as learning to guide the horse unassisted is invaluable for the vestibular system. However, it is the hidden benefits of riding a horse that make the biggest difference--not only to our clients, but also to the community of the Comox Valley as a whole. The shared challenges and triumphs of our riders help forge bonds of friendship, as they provide inspiration to each other to continue achieving and establishing new goals for their physical and mental health and fitness. We classify riding as recreational, but it truly is life changing. The bond between human and horse is so powerful, and is only enhanced when the person riding has extra needs. Our riders are able to connect with their horse in a way most of us will never understand. By giving our clients the pride of communicating and partnering with a horse, a sense of worth and dignity is developed, and carried forward into their interactions and contributions to our community. When we strive for inclusion and the emotional health of all our community members, we ensure safe, healthy futures for people who are often marginalized.

CVTRS provides unique equine-led therapy to enhance the lives of children and adults living with diverse-abilities.
Our Community
In addition to the Comox Valley, our programs serve Vancouver Island communities from Fanny Bay to Port Hardy, including 3 outlying islands accessible only by ferry. We are members of both the Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CANTRA) and the British Columbia Therapeutic Riding Association (BCTRA). CVTRS relies on individual and corporate donations, grants, fund raising events and minimal rider fees to meet its operating budget.
