Take a Hike is a proven full-time alternative education program that engages at-risk youth through a unique combination of academics, adventure-based learning, therapy, and community involvement.
The youth enrolled in the Take a Hike program are just like other kids - they want to realize their full potential. However, some youth have the odds stacked against them as they struggle with a combination of personal challenges and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety, which inhibit their academic success. Take a Hike provides these youth with a stable and supportive environment to work through their issues, build confidence, improve their academic abilities and eventually graduate from high school so they can chase their dreams and realize their full potential.
The Take a Hike Foundation has been in operation since 2000, when it opened its first program in Vancouver. Due to the program's success, the Foundation receives many requests from communities in BC and across Canada to bring the Take a Hike program to their school districts. In 2013 Take a Hike expanded and opened a second program in Trail, BC. The Burnaby program is the third and newest, with operations beginning in September 2014. The three programs serve 80 at-risk youth each year between the ages of 15 - 18 (grades 10 - 12).
Our vision is to be the leading alternate program at empowering at-risk youth to achieve their full potential, realize their dreams and give back to their community.
