SOS Children's Villages' vision is that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect and security. To make this a reality, SOS Canada focuses on helping children who have lost, or are at risk, of losing parental care. In 134 countries, thousands of orphans and abandoned children have a home, a caring parent figure, a sense of belonging in an SOS family, medical care, education and other support. Our outreach programs provide practical support to families at risk in communities near our Villages, including child-headed and grandparent-headed families.
SOS Children's Villages humanitarian assistance programs build on over 65 years of experience in child protection, and child and family welfare. In Northern and Central Africa, the Lake Chad Basin Crisis is affecting millions of children and is one of the world's largest overlooked humanitarian crisis. In 2017, SOS Children's Villages Canada expanded its humanitarian assistance programming in the Diffa Region of Niger, responding to the critical needs of children and women. Our team was able to deliver life-saving health care, malnutrition treatment, mental health supports and protection of affected children and women, to help them survive in the crisis.
