North Shore Volunteers for Seniors Society (NSVS) is a registered charity that has spent more than 55 years serving the seniors of North and West Vancouver.
NSVS is run by two employees with a volunteer board of ten. Our focus is on promoting the independence and well-being of “super seniors” - those over 85. However, we also welcome younger seniors, especially as volunteers.
Our Centre offers a number of weekly or bi-weekly programs to encourage mental and physical activity and continued social engagement. Many of our clients have ‘aged out’ of the area’s community centres, finding them too loud, too busy and too large. Our accessible garden studio allows us to offer one activity at a time, in one open space
Centre activities include Chair Exercises, Nordic Walking, Mahjong, Lunch & Bridge, Computer Help, Lunch & Scrabble, Iranian Group, Walking Group, Chair Yoga and Iranian Seniors.
In 2017-2018 our focus was Senior Standing Strong. We offered a number of courses and presentations on physical, financial and online security. We also published a desk calendar providing contact information and helpful hints.
