We fund, facilitate and promote activities which improve the provision of health care to those living within the referral area of the tertiary regional Kelowna General Hospital, BC. Donations, endowments, trusts, property and bequests are received to invest and help fund health care activities for KGH; Cottonwoods Extended Care Home; Brookhaven Care Home; Three Links Manor; David Lloyd Jones care homes; and the Central Okanagan Hospice House. Financial grants to Interior Health, a qualified donee, assist with funding medical equipment, patient care/comfort, direct health care services, health education and research. JoeAnna's House is a 20-bedroom home located steps away from KGH which provides accommodation to the families of those traveling to Kelowna for specialized medical care. One in four beds at KGH is occupied by a patient from outside the Central Okanagan and often their family has nowhere to stay. Families wanting to maintain presence at KGH while their loved ones are treated lack affordable short-term accommodation which adds significantly to their hardship. Charitable programs are supported by 300 volunteers who together contribute over 50,000 hours providing services including a hospital cafeteria, coffee shop, vending, engraving, gift shop and a thrift store. Grants are made to qualified donees with activities supporting health care in the community. Grants were provided to CMHA Kelowna in support of an integrated care center for kids 12-24 years for immediate access to mental health resources. The Foundry is a central resource to support youth suffering with mental illness, substance abuse and provides services including primary care and counseling together with social services. Their focus on prevention and support directly impact the number of young people who end up in the hospital emergency department facing a crisis. Other external health care agencies are also funded. Grants provide funding for research projects proposed to be conducted in whole or in part with Interior Health facilities/program and/or which involve IH staff/physicians/patients.
