Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver was established in 1995. Our goal is to mobilize volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to ending the cycle of poverty. Vancouver is the second most expensive housing market in the world - we can make a difference and help hard working families by moving them from uncertain rental situations into Habitat homes they can afford.

Habitat gives its Partner Families a hand up and not a hand out towards their dreams of homeownership and a safe community.

We rely on the generosity of our community partners and volunteers to build our homes. Our social enterprise ReStore revenue covers Habitat Greater Vancouver's operational costs and contributes to building more Habitat Homes in our local community. All donor money goes directly to building homes!

OUR HOMEOWNERSHIP MODEL
Habitat for Humanity is different from other affordable housing options. Our program starts with a Partner Family contributing 500 hours of sweat equity (volunteer hours) as its down payment towards building its home. Habitat families have stability and security in knowing they do not pay more than 30% of household monthly income for their interest free mortgage payments and property taxes. The hand up gives them a home they can afford, a chance to add to savings, and a way to break free from the cycle of poverty.
