Today, the GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. 28.3% of our clients are children and youth, 14.2% are seniors. We have four specialized nutrition programs for children from birth to 12 years old, and for seniors.
We also provide food support to over 150 Community and Provincial Agencies throughout these communities, such as housing agencies, women and children's shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are homeless.
The GVFB receives, purchases and distributes approximately 9.4 million pounds of food in 2024. Because of our size, scale and unique position in the local food system, we have greater buying power than can be achieved at the grocery store, and can double the value of each donated dollar we receive, maximizing the impact of our donors’ generous contributions.
We receive no ongoing government funding, and exist solely through the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations in our communities.
