Food Bank On Wheels mainly home delivers food and sundry items to single-parent families with a member experiencing a mental or physical disability that face barriers accessing traditional food banks safely in the Metro Vancouver area. FBOW additionally assists low-income individuals/families in the Vancouver Downtown East Side (DTES) & Sheppard House in Surrey. In a limited capacity, FBOW also serves seniors facing mobility challenges or other disabilities that prevent them from accessing traditional food banks, providing home-delivered food hampers. Each monthly home-delivered food hamper contains a carefully curated selection of fresh, perishable foods (which we purchase to ensure quality and meet specific dietary needs) alongside donated/rescued perishable & non-perishable items. Primarily, we purchase perishable foods and supplement with purchased non-perishable items not typically received through donations. Each monthly food hamper consists of approximately 7-10 days' worth of food. The ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rising cost of living has presented ongoing challenges in volunteer recruitment, prompting us to hire a dedicated team of staff to ensure consistent and reliable delivery of our essential services. These part-time staff and dedicated volunteers manage every aspect of our operation, from food sourcing and coordinating food preparation to deliveries, as well as administrative tasks that include client registration, setting up delivery dates, and all aspects of our social media. FBOW is grateful to receive a $60,066 Community Services Recovery Grant from the Government of Canada through SurreyCares to adapt and modernize the needs of our charity that is facing an immediate and long-term impact due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The $60,066 grant, running from June 1st, 2023 to June 30th, 2024, is invested in enhancing our organizational systems and processes. This consisted of Communications & Technology: New Website, Social Media Creation, SEO & Digital Equipment. This crucial support enables us to reach more people in need, streamline our operations, and expand our impact in the community. Food Bank on Wheels also provides grocery gift cards to clients we serve during the Christmas Holidays. "We remain committed to serving our community and expanding our reach to ensure that everyone has access to nutritious food and essential supplies."

In 2023 Food Bank on Wheels has expanded: We formed a new partnership with the Salvation Army/Caring Place in Maple Ridge, donating rescued and surplus food to support their community programs helping those with food insecurity. Also, in Nov 2023 we formed a new partnership with the School District 42 by providing weekend food hampers to families of the students in School District 42 as well as providing donated and rescued food to assist the schools district with their snack and lunch program. During the Christmas season, we also extended our reach to provide Christmas Food Hampers to families in the school district who were unable to receive support elsewhere. Our service is for those who live in : Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge, Mission, Aldergrove, Cloverdale, Surrey, Delta, Langley We remain committed to expanding our reach and are actively seeking volunteers to enable us to extend our services to Vancouver and Burnaby. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that everyone in our community has access to nutritious food and essential supplies, regardless of their circumstances.
