What we do
CWAV Society offers four programs:(1)Somenos Transition House shelter for women and their children who are fleeing abuse or violence. Stays are up to 30 days. Somenos House also manages the Homelessness Prevention Program that provides rental supplements, tenancy support and housing planning for women to find sustainable housing.(2)The Women Against Violence Against Women (WAVAW)program has Stopping the Violence(STV)counselling for women, PEACE(Prevention,Education,Advocacy,Counselling and Empowerment)child and youth counselling, Community Based Victim Services(CBVS)and a variety of counselling/psycho-educational groups including Strengthening Families, Holding your Own in Relationship, and Teen Healthy Relationships.(3)Horizons Pre- employment for Women is a life-skills-based program designed to assist women with multiple barriers to employment because of trauma from relationship and childhood violence and abuse.(4)RCMP Victim Services Program for the Duncan/North cowichan?Lake Cowichan and Shawnigan Lake detachments. This police-based program provides free and confidential support services to victims and witnessess of all crime types. The goal is to empower victims and their families throughout their participation in the criminal justice system.
