Check Your Head (CYH) is a youth-driven not-for-profit organization based in Vancouver, British Columbia that educates and activates young people on various social issues. Founded in 1999, we encourage young people to understand and take action for social, economic and environmental justice. We provide education, resources, training and support for youth to live as engaged, independent and active citizens within our local and global communities. Our main activities include workshops, facilitation and leadership training, supporting youth-led social and environmental justice actions, and engaging youth volunteers.
Our peer-led popular education workshops provide participants with a greater understanding of key issues facing our society and planet, empowering youth to link global issues to local realities. In over one decade of educating, engaging and empowering youth, we have facilitated over 2,200 workshops and worked with over 65,000 young people in the Lower Mainland and throughout B.C. All of Check Your Head’s work aims to create opportunities for young people to develop critical analysis, hope and tools for action on issues such as democracy, economic globalization, climate change, food sovereignty, gender equity and more.
Our mission is to create spaces where young people come together to connect, imagine and build socially and environmentally just communities. Our work is motivated by the understanding that a healthy, democratic and sustainable future depends on a generation of informed, empowered and active young people
