As the nationwide leader and champion for mental health, Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) helps people access the community resources they need to build resilience and support recovery from mental illness or addiction. We do this by building capacity, influencing policy, providing services, and developing resources. Together we positively impact change, creating a community that supports mental health and reduces the stigma associated with mental illness.
By offering community-based mental health education, services, and supports for children, youth, adults, and seniors, CMHA, Vancouver-Fraser contributes to the long-term health and wellbeing of our communities.
There are three strategic priorities guiding our work over the next few years:
1. Network collaboration: Our goal will be to establish a network of cooperative services in collaboration with our existing and new partners to help enhance access to mental health supports in the community.
2. Innovative programming: Recognizing that mental health awareness and needs have increased over the past few years, and through collaboration with partners, we aim to explore new programming across the continuum from prevention to recovery.
3. Revenue & capacity growth: In order to respond to the increasing need for our support, our revenue growth is focused on increasing capacity to deliver and expand our programs throughout the Vancouver and Fraser Valley region.
CMHA-VF offers services for individuals seeking support to improve their mental health. In addition to general mental health programming, CMHA-VF offers programs specifically focused on individuals in different age groups: seniors, children, and youth, and adults.
1. Housing - CMHA-VF Housing Programs help individuals find independent living while building skills as they work on their recovery from mental illness.
2. Children and Youth – CMHA-VF offers resiliency-building tools and resources for children and youth through several programs in communities and in schools.
3. Adults and seniors - Community-based and recovery-oriented services for adults and seniors.
4. Employment- CMHA-VF offers supported employment programming (including work placement) as part of integrated rehabilitation services in community for those struggling with mental health issues.
5. Wellness Programs - CMHA-VF believes that good mental health is essential to overall health and well-being. Whether you are managing a mental illness, supporting someone you care about, or looking to build your own overall health, CMHA VF can help build mental health skills and resilience. Programs are offered in several languages.
6. Community and Workplace Education - The CMHA, Vancouver-Fraser education department is committed to improving the psychological health and safety of our communities and our workplaces. Through skill-building workshops and training, CMHA VF increases mental health literacy, reduces stigma, provides resiliency-building tools, and encourages early intervention by building skills to better recognize and respond to someone in community or in the workplace who may be struggling with a mental health problem.
