The Blankets of Love Foundation for Mental Health exists to provide handmade quilts to people hospitalized for mental health challenges. This foundation operates nationally across Canada. It was started at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton but has since expanded its reach by building partnerships with hospitals and coordinating with quilters from coast to coast. Volunteers and supporters from various provinces contribute their quilts, ensuring the program serves patients in hospitals throughout the country.

Key activities include collecting, crafting, and distributing handmade quilts to in-patient mental health facilities. The foundation works closely with hospital staff to identify patients who would benefit from this initiative. Since its beginnings in 1996, thousands of quilts have been delivered, and the program continues to grow, with a vision to reach every Canadian facing mental illness in hospital with a “Blanket of Love.” Donors can support the initiative financially or by creating quilts, further extending its positive impact.
