The Assunnah Muslims Association (AMA)manages two main projects AMA Community Centre and Mosque of Mercy. Its vision is to create a welcoming community for all through spiritual uplifting,education, community engagement andpromoting diversity and equity. Some of the ongoing programs that AMA is i nvolved in include: hosting the five daily prayers and Friday Congregation prayer, as well as Eid prayers and celebrations. AMA hosts regular educational classes and programs for men, women and children, such as Arabic and Quran classes, toddler and children's Islamic Studies classes, as well as guest speakers and a variety of social learning and development opportunities.In addition to religious gatherings and education, the community centre of fers a variety of programs for a diverse range of individuals, such as: Kids' drop-in days during long weekends and holidays, regular outings and activities for seniors and a bi-weekly youth group for teenage girls. In addition to the numerous classes and activities offered,AMA also partners with the local community to provide spiritual and educational programs, such as the I.LEAD Conference for families, a monthly community blood drive and participation in Cleaning the Capital and Open Doors Ottawa.
This year, the Centre is busy facilitating some new projects, including programs for youth such as a Career Fair and Resume Writing Workshop, sports initiatives for teenagers and youth and a monthly Book Club. Other new programs include a family skate and a community Iftar (fast breaking) dinner during the month of Ramadan. As we look to expanding our site facilities, we will largely remain focused on the new development phase as well as retrofitting existing facilities.
