The Amazon Rainforest Conservancy (ARC) is a registered Canadian Charity. ARC protects, conserves and restores threatened tropical rainforest habitats in the Amazon for the benefit of future generations.
The Amazon rainforest is dying. In the time it took you to read that sentence, another acre of rainforest has been lost.
As the “lungs of our planet” it represents one of Earth’s most vital support systems. And yet it’s under constant threat – its conservation is more crucial than ever.
A dying Amazon affects families and economies worldwide. We’re already experiencing extreme weather events and disease outbreaks connected to the massive amounts of carbon released into the atmosphere. The reduction in rainfall is leading to water and food shortages and mass extinctions of plant and animal species.
For generations, the Amazon rainforest has stood as an awe-inspiring testament to the magic and power of nature. And we need a healthy Amazon rainforest as it plays a key role in the basic functioning of our planet.
There are few organizations on the ground actively protecting the world’s greatest rainforest. Amazon Rainforest Conservancy (ARC) has accepted this challenge. ARC is currently protecting and defending 800 + hectares of rainforest. With your help we can expand the lands in our care, reforest degraded areas and protect the species living there.
Join us in protecting the Amazon. We believe it is one of the most meaningful investments we can make - for our future generations and for the good of our planet.
Remember, ARC is a low-overhead philanthropy staffed by volunteers in Canada, so all donations go directly to protecting the Amazon rainforest.
We are working tirelessly to create a wildlife corridor connecting the two mountain ranges of the Cordillera Escalera Regional Conservation Area.
WHY THIS PROJECT MATTERS
Camera trap evidence shows significant wildlife activity crossing this valley. Unfortunately, these animals – particularly the region’s jaguars - are often shot by local farmers. It is estimated that only 15,000 jaguars remain in the wild. Their last refuge is in the Amazon rainforest.
OUR PROGRESS SO FAR
Since 2022, we have purchased 9 farms, totaling 394 acres! Reforestation of the former cattle pastures inherited through these land purchases is a key component of the project. Our six forest guardians collect the healthiest seeds from hardwood trees and bring them back to our nursery. Once these seeds mature into saplings, they are planted back in the valley.
WE ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
Our camera traps continue to capture footage of healthy jaguars and other big cats. We’ve seen ocelots, margays, pumas, and jaguarundis. We also captured remarkable footage of an Andean bear safely wandering across our land! This rare and charismatic bear is the only bear species native to South America. Population isolation and restricted access to essential feeding grounds have left the Andean bear critically endangered.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED
Quite simply, without people like you, we couldn’t continue this vital work. Your generosity makes our projects possible. We are incredibly grateful to all our supporters for standing with us to protect and preserve the Amazon rainforest.
Join us in expanding, reforesting, and safeguarding critical habitat corridors to ensure the survival and growth of wildlife in the region.
