Orienteering Canada's Endowment Fund

Sports and recreation

We love the great sport of orienteering and we're proud of orienteering's 50 year history in Canada. We are happy to support Orienteering Canada's goal of raising $50,000 to start up an endowment fund.

To celebrate Orienteering Canada's 50th anniversary (in 2017), we created this fundraising campaign to start an endowment fund to help orienteering in Canada grow over the next 50 years. We continue to welcome donations to the fund and we are grateful that you are considering a donation.

All money donated here will be added to the Orienteering Canada Endowment Fund. We currently have $1900 in matching funds from a generous donor. All donations up until Dec 31st will be matched until $1900 is reached.

We have raised over $230,000 to date. An enormous and sincere thank you to all the donors to date.

Numerous orienteers have made donations to the Endowment Fund in honour of some of our cherished orienteering friends who have passed away. The families of Adrian Zissos, Ursula Goeres and George Pugh have all encouraged donations to Orienteering Canada.

What is an endowment fund? An endowment fund is a permanent, self-sustaining source of funding. The assets in an endowment fund are carefully invested. Each year, a portion of the value of the fund is paid out to support the fund’s purpose (in this case: Orienteering Canada), and any earnings in excess of this distribution are used to build the fund’s value. In this way, an endowment fund can grow and provide support for Orienteering Canada in perpetuity.

We have created a Q&A sheet for those of you looking for more info about the endowment fund:
