Help fund the next generation to play wheelchair basketball!
Our “Have-a-go” sessions introduce individuals with a disability to wheelchair basketball; this may be the first step on their path to being active after a life changing injury or illness. Help us help them!
We are thrilled to welcome back BC Paralympians Bo Hedges, Deion Green Janet McLachlan and Amanda Yan, from the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Bo Hedges and Amanda Yan were both introduced to wheelchair basketball through "Have-a-go" sessions in BC!
With your support we will be get more people active playing wheelchair basketball through ‘Have a Go’ sessions in 2017.
WE ALL START SOMEWHERE!
Five quick facts about BC Wheelchair Basketball and our "Have-a-go" at Wheelchair Basketball Program:
• The BC Wheelchair Basketball Society (BCWBS) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting the development, promotion, and growth of wheelchair basketball in BC. We provide quality leadership, programs, and services for all who wish to participate, from children to seniors.
• Able-bodied friends and family are always welcome to play.
Wheelchair basketball is an inclusive sport. We encourage friends and family to try it out too. This shared activity helps to create a space that creates positive new experiences post-accident, injury or illness. Our wheelchair basketball ‘Have-a-go’ sessions are run by Paralympians, provincial athletes and coaches. The atmosphere is fun and informal; from here we work to introduce participants to our regular programming!
• Each year our wheelchair basketball programs reach approximately 380 current and new members across BC. With the growing popularity of wheelchair basketball, this number goes up every year! We can’t stop there!
• The "Have-a-go" at Wheelchair Basketball program costs $7,000 a year to run. Costs include specialized sport wheelchairs, getting people to come to the event, coaching, facilities, to name a few.
We need YOUR HELP so that we can deliver more programs to more people in 2017.
