Led by trusted changemakers, the Equality Fund and the Canadian Women’s Foundation, the Gender Action Fund is a bold partnership to supercharge gender equality in a time of mounting global and local volatility.
Gender equality has made progress, but it’s not enough. It’s fragile. And it’s being reversed.
With so many crises in Canada and around the world, it can be overwhelming to decide how to put your passion and generosity into action. • Equality Fund: A global fund investing in women’s rights movements around the world.
• Canadian Women's Foundation: Canada’s national public foundation for gender equality and justice.
A movement-led and activist-informed partnership
.This partnership is movement-led and activist-informed. Both organizations know that those closest to the problems often have the best solutions. Both have networks of organizations and movements that will quickly receive your donation.
• In Canada, this could mean resourcing local organizations addressing gender-based violence through shelter and counselling support.
• Internationally, it could mean protecting reproductive rights, expanding education access, or resisting authoritarian crackdowns on 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
A fragile reality
Around the world and here at home, the rights of women, girls, gender diverse, and trans people are being rolled back. Key indicators show the precarious state of progress:
• Gender pay gaps and leadership gaps persist across sectors.
• Gendered poverty remains entrenched, with women overrepresented in low-income and precarious work.
• Rates of gender-based violence remain disturbingly high—in Canada, a woman or girl is killed every 48 hours.
• Globally, countries like Uganda and Ghana have passed harsh anti-2SLGBTQIA+ laws, while Argentina has shuttered ministries dedicated to gender equality.
• The UN projects it will take 300 years to reach full gender equality if current trends continue. We cannot and will not wait.
